This year, Canada Day in Montreal was held under the theme of emergence. At the crossroads of arts and cultures, many emerging artists performed through urban videos that were quite original and unusual.

12 artists of diverse influences: Pop rock, folk and country, rap, painting, sculpture, fashion, humour… who did not lack inspiration!

Anne-Marie France

Anne-Marie is an artist painter who never ceases to explore new techniques and mediums. She brings the fluidity of alcohol inks together with the richness of resin to create colourful, moving works of art. Anne-Marie creates directly on the canvas, following her inspirations and instinct. You will see her use the fluid art technique as well as how she starts working on a canvas.

Birmani

Simon Doucet-Carrière (Guitar/Voice), Antoine Lévesque-Roy (Bass/Voice) and Mathieu Racine (Drums) come together to create a music band called Birmani. This trio is all about unabashed rock, ingrained in the niches of stoner and psychedelic rock, two musical styles that are rarely performed in French. Here, they interpret their song Birmani from their latest album, which came out in April 2021. Get ready to shake it up and nod to the rhythm!

Chanelle Allaire

With a diploma from the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal obtained in 2019, Chanelle has already collaborated with many companies and participated in many productions. In 2021, she had the opportunity of interpreting the works of Edouard Lock (La La La Human Steps) on the stage of Théâtre Maisonneuve of Montréal. With an industrial decor made of scaffolding, bricks and graffiti, she transcends space through her presence and grace. Today, Chanelle aspires to touch a broader public by transmitting her love for this art.

Having grown up in the performance arts world, and that of the camera lens through classical ballet, contemporary dance and modelling, Essia is filled to the brim with creativity! It was during the lockdown, where everything seemed to be sad and gray, that she started exploring clay, finding in it something magnificent. That is where her brand, Monokiini Atelier, was born. Plunge into the universe of this self-taught artist who reveals to us a part of her work.

There is no doubt that, Layal will take you on a voyage! She is an oriental dancer as well as an artist, with a solid base in classical ballet and modern jazz. She knows how to transmit her love for Turkish and Persian oriental culture with passion, offering vibrant and energetic performances to her audiences. Layal never stops searching for new inspiration to enrich the expressivity of her style with which to delight her audience through original and spectacular creations.

Maliciouz

Both a painter and a muralist, Maliciouz of Haitian descent, is a visual artist recognized for her afro, urban and contemporary art. Through her performance, Maliciouz creates a mural that reflects her artistic approach, characterized by the strength of her characters, mainly Black women whom she presents in her works as monumental entities. A powerful, colourful, invested creation.

Marie Onile

Marie Onile was only 8 years old when she got on a stage for the first time. Since then, she’s never stopped. This young author, composer and interpreter wields her pen just as well as she sings. Accompanying herself with her piano, Marie Onile makes us travel in a universe tinted with gracious, lively melodies and beautifully written lyrics. The song Yeux de verre, which she will be interpreting here, will make you want to lightheartedly set out and wander!

Moni is a flamboyant fashion designer! Transcending trends and influences with her brand Moni Amuli Couture, she offers timeless collectors’ items tailor-made in Québec which reflect the people who wear them. Rozalia Barkanyi, Tamara Chancy Altidor and Aline Karola wear Moni’s creations with boldness, putting on a joyful and striking fashion show.

Red Rockerz

Red Rockerz

Red Rockerz is an Indigenous electronic music duo consisting of two close cousins, Louis-Philippe Moar and Oshim Ottawa. The group are from Manawan, an Atikamekw community in Québec. Known for their catchy synthesizer sounds and rhythmic, Red Rockerz include their Indigenous culture into their music by using their mother tongue "Atikamekw" vocal samples, traditional songs and organic instruments such as hand drums, modern drums, rattles and guitars. They also combine slapped basslines and distorted synthesizers. Check out their title Proud+Loud now.

Samuel Deslongchamps

Samuel Deslongchamps is originally from Rawdon and now lives in Laval. He launched himself into the world of humour in 2016, quite alone, while simultaneously pursuing a career as a firefighter. Samuel defines himself as a self-taught funny guy who humbly tries to make people laugh. And he also created his own humour soirées called Punch and Roses which now have an excellent reputation. You can find him in his city, in the Sainte-Rose neighbourhood, where he goes out to put Lavallois’ sense of humour to the test.

Vendou

Vendou is a rapper from Montréal. His art is meant to be an intimate exchange, sometimes even a very intense one, at the heart of the spirit. He has already performed over 200 shows throughout Québec, France and Belgium, took part in the “Vue sur la relève” festival (5 prizes), was a guest at the “Plus on lit” show (8 victories, 0 defeats) and got a nomination at the GAMIQ (Alternative Independent Music Gala of Québec) for Hip-Hop album of the year. Listen to his song Parfait, performed in a muffled space filled with mystery.

Bluegrass, folk and country

Veranda

Veranda is the fruit born of collaborative work between actor and musician Catherine-Audrey Lachapelle and the multi-instrument musician Léandre Joly-Pelletier. Veranda proposes a perfect mix of influences, skilfully meshing together bluegrass, folk and country. This duo sings both in English and in French and offers music that is truly unique, as festive as it is sensitive. Turn up the sound a notch, and picture yourself in a bucolic little cabin in a remote spot. Their song Northern Wind will make you want to tap your feet to the rhythm.
